DeLaval, founded in 1883 as AB Separator by Gustaf de Laval, a descendant of 17th-century French emigrants born in 1845 in Dalarna, Sweden. Gustaf de Laval patented the centrifugal cream separator in 1878, along with numerous other inventions, earning a reputation as both an inventor and industrialist. His work influenced many contemporary inventors.
Throughout his life, Gustaf de Laval acquired 92 Swedish patents and founded 37 companies, demonstrating his belief in limitless potential through research. His inventions continue to impact millions worldwide.
DeLaval strives to support farmers by developing innovative solutions to advance milk production, improve milk quality, enhance food production, and promote animal welfare and environmental sustainability.
In 1963, AB Separator became Alfa Laval. When Tetra Pak sold Alfa Laval in 2000, they retained the part of the company now known as DeLaval. Today, Alfa Laval focuses on energy optimization, environmental protection, and food production.
